Sincrobot: autonomous robotics enters Elettra’s warehouse operations
![]() |
At the core of daily operations at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, Sincrobot has been developed as an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) designed to support internal logistics and streamline warehouse activities.
Developed entirely by the in-house IT group, Sincrobot combines autonomous navigation, natural language interaction, and operational assistance within a single platform. The system can navigate across warehouse areas, reach requested destinations, and follow operators as a smart trolley, reducing manual handling tasks. A key innovation is the onboard conversational assistant powered by a Large Language Model (LLM). Operators can access procedural, organizational, and material-related information through natural language queries, without interrupting their workflow. The solution is built on an open-source stack including ROS 2, Nav2, and Open-RMF, with full software integration developed internally—ensuring complete control, maintainability, and technology transfer potential. The hardware platform is provided by Eutronica. Already operational in the warehouse environment, Sincrobot represents a scalable and replicable model for research infrastructures and complex professional settings, contributing to reduced operation times, improved ergonomics, and enhanced accessibility of internal knowledge. With Sincrobot, Elettra strengthens its role not only as a leading research infrastructure, but also as a testbed for applied technological innovation. |
